MOCKBA!
Siberia is cool!
Siberia has not exactly lived up to expectations so far. Considering we came from a snowy Mongolia, it seemed odd to arrive to Irkutsk and be walking around comfortably in shorts and t shirts, but now 5 days later it started snowing on us again… Still not cold enough to accumulate though, it all just melts as it hits the ground.
Dinosaurs, snow and giant statues
From Beijing we took an early morning train up to Erenhot… or Erlian, we’re not quite sure (the town seems to have 2 names, but it’s hard to work out). We passed time by sleeping and eating food, but mostly by playing games of Big 2 or Uno (High School Musical 2 edition!). The scenery was pretty samey, after the first couple hours out of Beijing and its mountainous terrain we wound up heading through the Gobi Desert, and subsequently filled our carriage with sand and dust.
Beijing
I miss coffee. Everything here is pretty damn cheap, but coffee – if you can find it – is not one of those things. It would make the early mornings a little easier, but not that I’m complaining about it, we’ve seen some pretty badical* things so far.
Warrior land
It’s been pretty smoggy and dusty so far, today was no real exception. Buildings would sometimes fade beyond the smog at a distance of only 2 or 3 hundred metres, and the heat (upwards of 30 degrees) has been fun to contend with after 6 or so months not venturing above 10 degrees.
